The process is called ambient, because all size reduction steps take place at or near ambient temperatures, i.e. no cooling is applied to make the rubber brittle. The tires are first processed into chips of 2” (50 mm) in size in a preliminary shredder (A). The tire chips then enter a granulator (B). In this processing step the chips are reduced to a size of smaller than 3/8” (10 mm), while liberating most of the steel and fiber from the rubber granules. After exiting the granulator, steel is removed magnetically and the fibre fraction is removed by a combination of shaking screens and wind sifters (C). While there is demand for 3/8” rubber granules (Magnum’s case), most applications call for finer mesh material, mostly in the range of 10 to 30 mesh and smaller sizes. For this reason, most ambient grinding plants have a number of consecutive grinding steps (D).

The machines most commonly used for fine grinding in ambient plants are:

  • Secondary granulators
  • High speed rotary mills
  • Extruders or screw presses
  • Cracker mills

What distinguishes one process to another is basically how equipment and process logistics are conceived. Some have some of their equipment or part of it patented like some shredder part or a main shaft designs for example.

Patents

Magnum has been granted exclusivity for North America and future Global Rights to an array of next generation cost saving custom compounds and processes targeted at a wide spectrum of applications. In addition, Magnum will have access to state of the art processing aids and new world proprietary rubber recycling equipment. These developments will Revolutionize the Global Rubber Processing & Next Generation Compounding Market Worldwide

The company also has exclusivity to the patent relating to the re-composition of rubber powder. Magnum also has global rights for processing rubber into a powder with a particulate size less than 50 microns, as well as, a new liquefaction process now under development.

These patented processes allow Magnum to produce high quality materials in industrial quantities, unlike any other competitor or supplier worldwide and generate immediate business.

Chairman of Magnum, Joe Glusic, stated, Magnum has now positioned itself in the global arena by locating a facility in Malaysia with capability for R & D, high performance compounding, processing aids, recycling solutions, and advanced state of the art equipment. Its new office will be located locally in Malaysia with SRI. This really puts us on par with many other larger and more sophisticated companies and conglomerates. Actually, it puts us in prime position to be the first public company to operate and produce turnkey rubber recycling solutions, and could be the first Company to actually revolutionize the way rubber is recycled and processed worldwide.

Continuing Research and Development

To stay ahead of the competition is to be the competition. In Quebec we have the best R&D programs and incentives in America. That’s why you see a lot of pharmaceutical companies establishing their activities here in the eastern townships.

We discovered during our business planning that a few companies offer colored nuggets and buffings but seldom will you see variation of the same color. The client has to buy what the supplier offers. No way will Magnum follow the rules. This is why an R&D project will take place even at the start up stage of the business. Magnum will work with a well-known company who specializes in pigments for mulch. Colored mulch has become very popular for both artistic landscaping and practical gardening. So our goal is to develop a multitude of rubber mulch colors to satisfy a client asking a colored mulch which matches his house brick, is house vinyl, his landscaping, etc, etc.

Continuing Research and Development

Sekhar Innovations (SRI) and Magnum DIOR Resources, Inc (Magnum) Research Programs

  • We are working on specific programs to substantially increase the speed, cost efficiency, processing capacities and performance specifications of existing devulcanization technologies. Here we are talking about the next generation of processes and materials with the word potential removed because we are going to do it now.
  • Working on the establishment of these specialized recycled compounds into accepted standardized raw material compounds. We are focused on stepping away from the filler and diluent market and into the value added compounds that contribute to the performance of the final product.
  • Research into the development of cutting edge Processing Aids with emphasis on high performance specifications and low cost. (Processing aids are materials, chemicals and products that modify the behavior of compounds in terms of characteristics during process and or performance parameters in the final product. In rubber, processing aids have become a vital component in nearly all manufactured products, molded, extruded or otherwise)

Sekhar Research Innovations Sdn Bhd (SRI) and Magnum DIOR Resources, Inc. (Magnum) are currently working with manufacturers (with specific relevance) on the following.

  • Consulting on Processing & Recycling Solutions
  • Production of custom compounds for the following product ranges:
  • Retread
  • Motorcycle Tires
  • Bicycle Tires
  • NR & Butyl Rubber Tubes
  • Automotive Components
  • Marine Rubber Component Compounds (dock bumpers etc)

Other activities

  • Cryogenic Crumb Recycling & Application Solutions
  • Manufacturing Solutions related to Process Automation & Bulk Volume Processing
  • Specialized Processing Aids

At this time applications far outnumber the amount of available raw material to produce them, thus creating a considerable supply gap for the powder. And the Quebec province has the best R&D program and incentive in America.
