Evaluation of utilizing production buffings generated in Magog to produce premium compounds from OTR tires has recently been completed. The reclaimed materials from these specialized tires generally consist of high quality rubber compounds with superior properties. Although they are currently used for the base production of rubber chips and colored mulch, the company is investigating the potential production of high end, premium compounds that will create higher profit products. Until now, the primary focus of production in Magog centered on the production of various types of crumb produced from the recovery of whole tires. This new opportunity to utilize the same production materials in a more technologically advanced process presents some very interesting and profitable ramifications.
Gopi Sekhar, CEO of SRI stated, “Over the next several months many production sized batch trials will be carried out to evaluate the new Magnum/SRI custom compounds in various applications. These trials will establish the production techniques required in the short and long term for strategic value added compounding production envisioned for the Magog facility. With the imminent commissioning of the 40 mesh crumb line at Magog we have re-doubled our efforts to make sure that the move to value addition and technical excellence is maintained with a high order of priority.”
